Examples of Jazz Music (with some Funk) - composition,
recording and performance by Lee Nicklen

Afro Blue
"Afro Blue" is a jazz standard composed by Mongo Santamaría, perhaps best known in its arrangement by John Coltrane. I had never ever played this song before this recording. No music was written out and no chords read. Everything you hear is purely improvisation and following the band live and unrehearsed.
Musicians playing: Lee Nicklen on piano, Helleanor Webb on sax and flute, Simon Hill on bass, Graham Sowerby on drums, Will Rumfitt on trombone, and Neil Bogart on congas and percussion.

Everything you hear is played 'as live' and pretty much unrehearsed - using a Fatar Studio 900 weighted keyboard. All was recorded on the fly 'as-live' using an old copy of Steinberg's Cubase.

Truffle Hunter by Lee Nicklen
This is a LONG imrovisational piece of music, originally written for fun, and finally finished off for a small Australian games company who created a corporate Flash game for marketing purposes and commissioned me to complete it. It is primarily funky bass and steady drums with Rhodes piano, with a splash of Hammond C3 and some psych synth and delay. The almighty Fatar Studio 900 weighted mother keyboard was of course used to play all parts, including drums and bass. All was recorded on the fly 'as-live' using an old copy of Steinberg's Cubase.
